Part of the “In Amorous Fashion” Film Series: Marie Antoinette. While this film was not the wild, French-aristocracy=punk-rock-explosion I expected it to be, I thought it was a worthwhile look into the life of this historical figure. Parts of it stayed with me and I found it to be rather sensitive to it’s subject.

Girls just want to have fun, and Sophia Coppola reminds us the queen was just a girl before she became a byword for royal decadence. Kirsten Dunst portrays her with exhilaration—despite the guillotine in her future—in this delicious bonbon of a movie.
“In Amorous Fashion: Films of Fragonard’s France” takes a look at French aristocratic style in Fragonard’s era during this Saturday afternoon film series.
