Weekend Review: Scrooge “A Christmas Tale”

As mentioned in an earlier listing, it would have been difficult to keep me away from The No Strings Marionette Company’s production of Scrooge (no, not the Bill Murray flick). Our family and guest were extremely excited to see this presentation. I have never seen a play using puppets in my life, so this was a real treat.

The auditorium was abuzz with children and parents. Various treats and snacks were available for reasonable prices (the homemade peanut butter cups were exceptional). Cushioned mats were laid out in front of the stage so our boys, along with a few others, took it upon themselves to wrestle and romp. Just before the play began, the guy part of the duo, came out with his acoustic guitar and got the kids focused and settled with renditions of lively and interactive seasonal songs.

Day Five: Hemmings Filling Station

hemmings interiorHemmings Filling Station is a gem of a place, and was quite a revelation to me. They could accidentally be over looked and are probably better known nationally than locally, due to their involvement with numerous auto fanatics and the several auto magazines they publish. What I originally took to be as another gas station, with a gift shop for tourists, turned out to be a car aficionado’s dream store. Others may have been aware of Hemmings before, but if you are avoiding this place for whatever reason you owe it to yourself to check it out!
